Mini-Reunions

West coast to east coast 1968 mini-reunions

cindyetal.jpg--2- The first mini-reunion (that I know about) after our 50th took place at the Cottonwood Cafe in Sisters, Ore. on August 7th. Martha “Martie” Helmreich, Helen Seidler and Cynthia “Cindy” Hetsko Rainey had a delightful 2.5 hour lunch.

Ellen Genat Hoffman had a get-together at her house with theellenpic.jpg--2- seven who occupied the 4th floor of Pomeroy our freshman year.  “We hadn’t been together since then. The  attendees travelled from southern New Jersey, Connecticut and western New York.”

Winter 2019 Class Notes

These notes cover classmates in the news, mini reunion updates and words from our president. Remember to send me news for the next class notes.  Thanks.  Judy

  • Classmates in the news:

The NY Times in its article about Rwanda “Where sore throats can kill” quoted our classmate Dr. Pat Challender Come. As she wrote in the Reunion book, Pat is part of Team Heart. Here is a link to an inspiring story about their work.

J. Joseph Moakley Professor of Political Science Kay Lehman Schlozman is on leave from Boston College this year while she teaches at Wellesley as a visiting professor.  In September, she was the first woman to be selected for the American Political Science Association’s Warren E. Miller Lifetime Achievement Award, which honors an outstanding career of intellectual accomplishment and service to the profession in the field of elections, public opinion, and voting behavior.  A link to this article is https://www.bc.edu/bc-web/bcnews/campus-community/honors/schlozman-wins-miller-prize.html

Future mini-reunions

Susan “Holly” Clayson and Alice Bell Gustafson are planning a McAfee mini reunion for 1968 and 1969 classes in Chicago, Sept 26-29, 2019. They did this in 1995 and it was great fun.  They’ve distributed info to as many McAfee residents as they can find. Former McAfee residents heads up.

Our President, Lynn Chornyei Thurber reports that an overwhelmingly positive response to our holding a Tucson class mini-reunion redux has us contemplating locations and dates in spring 2021.  If you have a location suggestion or are willing to be part of the organizing group, please let her know (lynn.thurber@gmail.com).
